Saline Sustainability Circle Group Charter

Saline Sustainability Circle (SSC) Mission
Coordinate the vision and planning for the Saline Community while respecting the authority of the constituent members.

Saline Sustainability Circle Membership
Standing invitations for membership are extended to the following local communities - the Townships of Bridgewater, Lodi, Pittsfield, Saline, and York, the City of Saline, and the Saline Area Schools.  The Saline Sustainability Circle may invite new members at any time at its discretion.  When the elected boards have formally adopted resolutions appointing the delegates and alternates, the organization becomes a permanent member.  Other public and private entities will be invited to participate in regular meetings and special initiatives in accord with their respective interests and SSC organizational needs.

Saline Sustainability Circle Representation
Each Permanent Member organization shall appoint two (2) delegates, at least one (1) of which must be an elected member of the governing body of that member organization.  Additionally, two alternates shall be appointed by each member organization.  The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce shall appoint one (1) non-voting member to the Saline Sustainability Circle.

Saline Sustainability Circle Voting
Organizational matters shall be decided by a majority vote of the constituent members with each permanent member organization having one vote.  Policy matters, such as recommendations to constituent organizations, shall be decided by at least two-thirds majority with each permanent member organization having one vote.  Actions by SSC are non-binding recommendations and are purely advisory.

Saline Sustainability Circle Officers
The permanent members of The Saline Sustainability Circle will elect a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and a Secretary for one (1) year terms.

Saline Sustainability Circle Agenda Setting
Items to be placed on the Saline Sustainability Circle meeting agenda may be proposed by a delegate or by anyone in attendance at a SSC meeting.  The Chair, or the Vice-Chair if the Chair is unavailable, will make the final decisions as to what items are placed on the meeting agenda.

Public Participation
Participation by the public is encouraged at the SSC meetings.

Saline Sustainability Circle Organization Date
The Charter will be in effect once the elected governing bodies of four (4) of the permanent invitees has adopted the Charter and appointed its delegates to the Saline Sustainability Circle.

Amending the Group Charter
The Group Charter can be amended at any time by the Saline Sustainability Circle at its discretion.  Amendments are to be introduced at a meeting of the delegates and may be acted upon at a subsequent meeting.
